On April 20, CBA co-hosted with Jones Day this symposium at Jones Day Silicon Valley Office at 1755 Embarcadero Road, Palo Alto. About 70 attendees participated in this event.
This workshop featured two themes. The 1st theme was Patenting in the Life Sciences – Considerations for China and US. Dr. Patricia Campbell and Dr. Bing Liang discussed the role of patents in the discovery, development, and commercialization of lifesaving and life-transforming medicines in China and the U.S. They provided updates on patenting opportunities and challenges, including updates on recent patent law reforms in China aimed at strengthening patent protection, fostering innovation and improving legal frameworks.
The 2nd theme was Capital Markets – Updates in China, US and Hong Kong. There have been a number of regulatory developments affecting trade and investment between China and the U.S. over the past 18 months. Many of these developments are still unfolding, with further changes expected. Mr. Alan Seem and Ms. Chen Ye discussed how these changes, particularly FIRRMA and related rules, were expected to impact the biotech industry over the coming months and years. They also discussed the continuing implementation of the pre-revenue biotech listing rules in Hong Kong and some case studies of recent listings in that market.
